WHAT
IS SURGICAL ONCOLOGY?
Surgical
Oncology is a subspecialty of general surgery that involves
the newest surgical treatment of patients with cancer. Fellowship
training is available in 14 surgical oncology training programs
which are overseen by the governing board, the Society of
Surgical Oncology. Surgical Oncology provides state of the
art surgical care for common malignancies as well as complex
and rare surgical problems. Surgical Oncology fellowships
are 2-3 years long and involve intensive training in the
latest surgical techniques available for a variety of cancers.
A coordinated multi-disciplinary approach between surgeons,

to optimize patient outcome. Advance surgical oncology procedures
